When was (DMA) originated

Dunedin Muslim Association (DMA) originated in 2020 when few brothers realised the need of Islamic Centre to serve the Dunedin muslims due to the influx in the number of muslims in Dunedin.

For the past few years, the DMA is renting a property that serves as a mosque and Islamic Centre for the muslims in Dunedin. The masjid is operational under the name of “Al-Maryam Mosque” located currently at 195 Macandrew Rd, South Dunedin, Dunedin, New Zealand.

Dunedin unlike other city have a diverse and united nations of muslim community, including former refugees from Syria, Palestine, and other parts of the world. The vision from brothers is to formally have an Islamic Centre that performs as Mosque for a place of refuge and a platform for all muslims in Dunedin to congregate to pray, educate, integrate etc.

The other fundamental objective of the Islamic Centre is to perform as a madrasa that would ensure to establish Quran Hifz, Alim, Alima and other relevant Islamic education programs for Dunedin Muslims and wider New Zealand Muslim community. Currently, there is no formal Islamic education madrasa in the South Island region, thus, the DMA is focussed on eliminating this vacuum.
